- How do I use my insurance?
I handle insurance benefits verification for all clients. To do this, I'll need your insurance plan name, full name, D.O.B., subscriber ID #, group #, and the customer service number on your insurance card, which you can provide in the online portal. This helps provide an estimate of your costs before we begin. If needed, I may provide you with a script to contact your insurance directly. - What do these terms mean? Deductible, copay, coinsurance?
For a clear explanation, visit this website. - Do I need a diagnosis to use my insurance?
Yes, insurance requires a DSM diagnosis (e.g., depression, anxiety) for coverage. I conduct a diagnostic session for all clients to establish a working diagnosis and the medical necessity of ongoing care. - What if I don't want anything in my mental health record?
If you prefer not to use insurance due to privacy concerns, we can discuss alternatives. The ACA law currently protects against discrimination for pre-existing conditions, but you may want to consider how a diagnosis could affect future disability or life insurance applications.
Sliding Scale Referrals
I cannot offer sliding scale rates to new clients at this time. Reduced rate slots are reserved for current or former clients who have lost insurance, employment, or moved to an out-of-network insurance plan. I can refer you to therapists who may offer reduced rates.
